With a global increase in kidney disease prevalence, driven by the escalation of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, World Kidney Day, celebrated since 2006 on the second Thursday of March, serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of kidney health.

Aligning with this global initiative, UMC clinics, including the Mother and Child Center, Diagnostic Center, and Heart Center, alongside the University Health Center, offered free screening to Astana’s residents and visitors on March 14, 2024. These screenings included comprehensive consultations, blood pressure measurements, and blood and urine tests to assess kidney function.

Following the screenings, on March 15, 2024, a conference entitled “Healthy Kidneys for All: Ensuring Equal Access to Medical Care and Optimal Drug Practice” took place at the NU School of Medicine. The conference targeted medical professionals, focusing on the promotion of kidney health awareness and the importance of ensuring the wellbeing of the community through equitable medical care and optimal drug practices.

The events underscored the commitment of NU School of Medicine and the University Medical Center Corporate Fund to enhancing kidney health awareness and the overall health of the Kazakhstani population. Through such initiatives, they continue to play a pivotal role in advancing healthcare education and services, reinforcing the importance of preventive measures and accessible healthcare for all.
