In less than a month, the NU Association of International Students (NUAIS), together with the NU Alumni Association and with the support of the Saryarka District Akimat and the Red Crescent, raised more than 1.7 million tenge in charitable funds, making it the largest charity amount raised in the history of the university. A total of 83 families and 26 orphans received assistance, including food packages, essentials, warm clothes, shoes, toys, and books.

NU international students intend to make their charity initiative not just a one-time action but a regular project aimed at supporting families and children in Kazakhstan. In addition, this project allows the international community of NU to immerse in the local community and better understand the off-campus environment.

“It was not only a “donation” but more than a one-way donation. We donated some basic daily necessities to families and children in need, and they donated kindness and love in return. Also, this charity project was a unique opportunity for us, the international students, to have empathetic interactions with the local community, which helped us to know more about Kazakhstan and its wonderful people”, Mohammad Habib Abdullah, President of NUAIS explained.

Activists note that the start of the project was more successful than they expected, so the international students of NU are set to carry on with the “Give Back To Kazakhstan” project in 2023.

NU has nearly 200 international students who, together with the faculty, form an international community driven by a diversity of ideas and the richness of cultures.
