NU is Establishing Cooperation with International Turkic Academy

On Friday, February 3rd President of the International Turkic Academy Mr. Shahin Mustafayev, and the President of NU Mr. Shigeo Katsu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide grounds for cooperation in the field of Turkic and Eurasian Studies and beyond.

The MoU was signed during the first and introductory visit to NU. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev is a specialist in the medieval history and culture of the peoples of the Middle East and Central Asia, was appointed as the President of the new International Turkic Academy on November 11, 2022, during the summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Samarkand.

NU (NU) has a Department of Kazakh Language and Turkic Studies as part of the School of Sciences and Humanities. The Department Head is a prominent scholar in the field Uli Schamiloglu. The MoU aims to support opening specialized academic and research tracks of Turkic Studies within the Eurasian Studies Master and Ph.D. programs. In the future, a specialized degree in Turkic Studies is envisioned. In addition, this cooperation opens up opportunities for NU to attract and network with scholars and researchers from member Turkic countries and institutions.

International Turkic Academy, established in 2010, is an international research center tasked with conducting research on the Turkic world, headquartered in Astana, Kazakhstan. The Academy has a status as an international organization and affiliation with the Organization of Turkic States. Current members are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Hungary as observer state.
