On January 27, 2023, NU President Shigeo Katsu, also a chair of the Development Solutions Network in Kazakhstan (SDSN Kazakhstan), officially inaugurated the Karaganda Buketov University as a member of this National Network.
Last year, under the umbrella of the global SDSN, which works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society,The Kazakh chapter was approved as a National Network hosted by NU.
Having education and partnership as its thematic priority, SDSN Kazakhstan focuses on incorporating sustainable development science in the curricula of the universities in the country and on the progress made towards embedding SDGs in tertiary education.
“We are pleased with the entry of Karaganda Buketov University into this network since your university is at the core of the industrial ecosystem of the region and closely cooperates with industrial enterprises. In this regard, your university will play a significant role in the Sustainable Development Solutions Network”, – Mr Katsu said at the official seminar dedicated to the launch of SDSN.
During the visit, the NU delegation also got acquainted with the activities of Karaganda scientists and discussed prospects for cooperation between NU and Karaganda Buketov University.
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network was set up in 2012 as an initiative of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to promote SDGs through education, research, policy analysis, and global cooperation. UN SDSN has 1600 member institutions from 137 countries, including 1318 universities and research institutions organized into 47 National and Regional Networks. The Kazakhstan chapter has 25 members, including universities, research institutes, and NGOs.
