The community of NU is disappointed to learn about the blatant and gross lies spread by media outlets, such as Nege.kz, Telegram channels Nege.kz and Krivosheev.Live, and others. The university is observing a continued effort to discredit the university’s activities and achievements in the court of public opinion through a malicious disinformation campaign, and defame its president, Shigeo Katsu, with a desired outcome of forcing him into resignation.
The university administration informs that Shigeo Katsu is and remains the inaugural and effective president of NU, whose contribution to the university’s sustainability, wellbeing and effective governance is unparalleled and unmatched. President Katsu continues to carry out his executive duties on a daily basis, which are especially elaborate and important as NU prepares for the graduation of the 9th cohort of its students. Any information about his resignation is entirely baseless and untrue, and is aimed to destabilize the university’s life and processes.
In the meantime, the university informs that defamation and libel are punishable by law in Kazakhstan, and those responsible for a smear campaign will be held legally accountable. At this point in time, the university administration is not at liberty to disclose the full information of the details of these politically charged misinformation campaigns. The university administration will inform the media and wider public of the progress in the near future.
