The Nazarbayev University’s Research Centre for Entrepreneurship (NURCE) presented a collection of inspiring stories of 51 eco-oriented entrepreneurs whose activities across different regions of Kazakhstan are paving the way for sustainable and ethical business. These entrepreneurs, ranging from rural innovators to urban leaders, are the driving force behind the country’s ecological future.
The book presentation “Green Innovators of the Steppe: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Kazakhstan” was dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh philosopher and poet Abai Kunanbayuli, whose ideas on the concept of “Tolyq Adam” inspired the “Tolyq Business” approach, combining intellect, willpower, and heart in entrepreneurial activity.
Kadisha Dairova, Vice President of Nazarbayev University, noted:
“We are proud to support and inspire young entrepreneurs who are creating a sustainable future for Kazakhstan. This event is not just about business, but also about a deep respect for the traditions, culture, and wisdom of Abai, which have always been the foundation of our identity.”The ideological inspirer of the project, Professor Shumaila Yusafzai, Director of NURCE, added:
“This book is not just a collection of success stories. It is proof that Kazakhstani entrepreneurs are capable of changing the global perception of business by combining innovation with ecological and social values. These are the people who are shaping the future we want to see.”
On April 25, 2025, a significant event took place at Nazarbayev University – the official launch of the book Green Innovators of the Steppe: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Kazakhstan and the honoring of entrepreneurs whose work is setting new standards in the fields of ecology, sustainable development, and circular economy in Kazakhstan.
The co-editors of the book, Janar Kulzhanova and Mohammed Habib Abdulla, believe that each entrepreneur featured in this book serves as an inspiration to others. These individuals prove that it is possible to combine business success with care for the planet and society. The authors of the book hope that their stories will serve as a catalyst for the wider spread of eco-initiatives in Kazakhstan.
As part of the event, the Eco Bazaar “Eco Tamyr” also took place, featuring eco-oriented brands, sustainable locally produced goods, and innovative green solutions. Many of these initiatives have been developed by the entrepreneurs mentioned in the book.
Throughout the event, participants shared their views on sustainable development and the importance of ecological initiatives. Notable speakers included Bauyrzhan Amangeldi (Eco-Ton), Andrey Zelevskiy (Zelevskiy), Umit Kasymova (OIKO), Erlan Makazhanov, Mariyam Kasymova (Seleu Consulting), and others. A special focus of the event was the awards ceremony, during which entrepreneurs and team members received certificates. Additionally, there was a musical performance by the NU Orchestra, reflecting the harmony, resilience, and philosophy of Abai.
