On January 25, 2023, Deputy Head of the Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, Dr. Nout van Woudenberg visited NU with a guest lecture on the topic “The Kingdom of the Netherlands. One Kingdom, four countries: Europe and the Caribbean”. The lecture was held for the university community: students, faculty and staff.
Dr. van Woudenberg holds a Master of Law degree, a PhD in Public International Law, and postgraduate qualification in PR and information. Prior to his appointment as Deputy head of mission, he held the position of a strategic policy adviser at the ministry of foreign affairs in Aruba, Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Mr. van Woudenberg in his lecture spoke about the system of the state, the internal structure of the autonomous countries: the Netherlands, the islands of Aruba and Curaçao, as well as part of the island of Sint Maarten in the Caribbean Sea, which are part of the Kingdom and about their economic situation. Moreover, Dr. van Woudenberg gifted two books of his own authorship to the NU Library “State Immunity and Cultural Objects on Loan” and “Protecting Cultural Property in Armed Conflict”.
The Netherlands is the largest investor in the economy of Kazakhstan and the country’s fifth largest trading partner in agriculture, energy, healthcare and pharmacy as well as technology sectors. The lecture ended with a Q & A session, so that participants could ask all their questions.
