On July 2, Nazarbayev University hosted a creative evening commemorating the 83rd birthday of Mukhtar Shakhanov, People’s Writer of Kazakhstan, poet, and public figure.
The event was organized by the NU Poetry student club, whose members extended their congratulations to the poet and invited him to an evening of his poetry and songs.
The ceremony was attended by Kadisha Dairova, Vice President of Nazarbayev University for Student Affairs and International Cooperation; Gultas Kurmanbay, Head of the Center for National Culture; students of the university; as well as residents of the capital city who came to meet the esteemed poet.
“I congratulate you on your birthday, Mukhtar aga. Thank you for visiting our university and engaging with our students, who have grown up inspired by your literary work,” said Kadisha Dairova in her address to the poet.
During the event, students recited Mukhtar Shakhanov’s poetry, accompanied by a performance of his renowned song “Өмір – өзен” (“Life is a River”) by the NU Orchestra. Additionally, the NU Poetry club organized a thematic quiz dedicated to the poet’s oeuvre, with winners receiving commemorative prizes. The evening concluded with an open microphone session, where attendees expressed their appreciation and recited their favorite verses from the poet’s works.
At the conclusion of the event, Mukhtar Shakhanov delivered a blessing to the youth, urging them to remain faithful to their principles. As a gesture of gratitude, the student club presented the poet with a letter of appreciation and a bouquet of flowers. Concurrently, signed copies of the author’s books were available for purchase on site.
