Astana Business Campus Launches MedTech R&D Center
Nazarbayev University (NU) has launched an innovative R&D Center for medical technologies, created in strategic partnership with Galamat Group and Astana Business Campus. The center aims to merge NU’s scientific capacity with industry expertise to accelerate the development of new healthcare solutions.
Speaking at the opening, Abzal Daribayev, Managing Director for Innovation at Astana Business Campus, Galamat Group CEO Seitzhan Sypabekov, Deputy Head of the Executive Management for NU Impact Foundation Sansyzbay Zholdasbayev, neurosurgeon Mynzhylky Berdikhojayev, and other industry leaders highlighted the center’s potential to transform the region’s medical technology ecosystem.
“This is the first medical technology hub in Kazakhstan and Central Asia designed to generate commercially oriented healthcare innovations. So far, we have supported 33 startups that raised over $23 million. With strong partners, practicing physicians, scientists, and students working within NU’s innovation ecosystem, we are confident about achieving even greater impact,” said Sansyzbay Zholdasbayev.
Located within NU’s Technopark, the center provides scientists, engineers, and physicians with advanced infrastructure to design, prototype, test, and scale medical devices. Galamat Group, already experienced in producing coronary catheters and other products, will leverage the center to expand its portfolio and bring innovations to market faster.
Today, NU’s medical cluster hosts more than 10 resident startups. Looking ahead, the university plans to replicate this model in the mining, metallurgy, and agribusiness sectors, further strengthening Kazakhstan’s innovation-driven economy.
