Twenty-six percent of the registered applicants are from Astana, 19% from Almaty, and more than 8% from Karaganda Oblast. The faculty leaders are the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (with special tests in critical thinking and mathematics), the School of Engineering (mathematics and physics), and the School of Science and Technology (mathematics and physics). Out of the 709 applicants, 364 are female and 345 are male. NU would like to remind its prospective students that in 2012 it will start to admit students to the bachelor degree programme without the obligatory foundation programme. The entry requirements and the online application form for this programme will be made available at the University’s website early in the next year. In 2011 NU had 4,247 applicants, out of which 501 became students who began studies this autumn.
