“A Journey into the World of Fairy Tales” event was held at the NU Library in honour of International Children’s Book Day. The event organizers are Petr Lapo, Gaziza Tarik from the NU library, Zhaslan Nurbayev, ENU representative, Professors Duishon Shamatov, Janet Helmer and Michelle Bеdeker and graduates Aigerim Baizhumayeva and Arai Sarsenbai from NUGSE.
The guests – children and teachers of rural schools came from the villages of Karatogai of Aktobe region, Pavlov of Kostanay region, Yenbekshiaral and Aishabibi of Zhambyl region, Osakarovka of Karaganda region, Kaltabatau of Abai, Zhibek Zholy, Taitobe and Zhaksy of Akmola region.
Before the meeting in the library, the young guests were given a university tour. Meanwhile, professors of NU had time to discuss the most actual education issues with teachers and spoke about research projects.
The children met with the writer Zira Nauryzbai, a researcher of Kazakh mythology, the author of the book “The Eternal Sky of the Kazakhs” (2013, 2020) and a series of children’s books based on Kazakh mythology “The Adventures of Batu and His Friends”. The author read excerpts from the fairy tale, and young guests began to discuss the characters and share their opinions. Also, the children had time to draw and communicate with NUGSE professors and graduates.
“Books play an important role in children’s spiritual and intellectual development, and we want to popularize reading. We hope that this visit helped the children become even more motivated to study hard and set a goal to study at the best universities in Kazakhstan or abroad”- Professor Duishon Shamatov, one of the event organizers, voiced the goal.
Professors and teachers want to turn such meetings into a good tradition.
