The 16th Annual Gender, Work & Organization (GWO) Conference will take place on 8–10 June 2026 at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing together scholars, practitioners, and artists to discuss contemporary issues in gender studies and the organization of work. Established in 1994 alongside the Gender, Work and Organization journal, the conference serves as an international forum for examining how gender relations shape labor, organizations, and social structures.

The 2026 theme, “Voices at the Margins: Rethinking Gender, Labor, and Belonging,” invites participants to reconsider whose knowledge and experiences shape academic and social debates. The program will explore perspectives emerging from marginalized communities and address topics such as postcolonial and decolonial feminisms, intersectionality, queer theory, feminist disability studies, and new forms of activism and resistance.

The conference aims to create a space for critical dialogue and collaboration, encouraging participants to reflect on changing forms of work, belonging, and knowledge production in a rapidly transforming global context. Submissions for stream proposals are welcome, with participation available both onsite and in hybrid format.
