Kazakhstan holds a significant place in the global development of primary health care, having hosted the landmark Alma-Ata Conference in 1978 and contributing to the adoption of the Astana Declaration in 2018. Building on this legacy, the Primary Health Care International Congress will bring together national and international experts, health care professionals, educators, researchers, and other stakeholders to explore the future of primary health care and approaches to strengthening community-based health systems.
The Congress will focus on practical mechanisms for improving the effectiveness of multidisciplinary PHC teams and enhancing the quality, accessibility, and continuity of care. Particular attention will be given to family physician-led teams, including family and home-visiting nurses, social workers, psychologists, and midwives, as well as approaches to integrating medical and social services at the community level.
Key discussions will also address the development of Centers of Best Practice in PHC and lessons learned from their implementation across Kazakhstan, meaningful community engagement in monitoring and improving the quality of care, and the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in primary health care. The Congress will further highlight the importance of education and competency-based training in preparing the next generation of PHC professionals.
The programme will feature site visits, expert-led masterclasses, an opening ceremony, plenary and panel discussions, parallel thematic sessions, awards, and networking opportunities. Through knowledge exchange and dialogue between local and international experts, the Congress aims to identify practical solutions and share best practices for building stronger, more integrated, and community-oriented primary health care systems.
