High-Level Chinese Delegation Visits to Explore Research Collaboration
Nazarbayev University (NU) was honored to welcome a distinguished delegation, representing the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kazakhstan and the Hong Kong-based GX Foundation – non-profit organization promoting humanitarian medical assistance. The visit marked a meaningful step toward building academic partnerships and advancing research collaboration in areas such as public health, medicine, and multidisciplinary innovation.
“As a foundation, we would love to be able to work closely with top universities in academic research, and we are exploring the possibility of being active and operational in Kazakhstan. We look forward to working together as partners in public health, medicine, experiential learning, and multidisciplinary research,” – said Prof. CHAN Ying Yang Emily, CEO of GX Foundation.
The delegation also included H.E. LEUNG Chun Ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the GX Foundation; and H.E. HAN Chunlin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The guests were received by NU President Professor Waqar Ahmad, along with Vice Presidents Dr. Kadisha Dairova and Dr. Assel Uvaliyeva. The visit focused on exploring potential avenues for research collaboration, academic exchange, and strategic partnership between NU and Chinese institutions.
H.E. LEUNG Chun Ying noted that Hong Kong is a highly open and multinational environment, with strong academic infrastructure and global connections. He added that approximately 300 students from Kazakhstan are currently studying in Hong Kong, reflecting the growing educational ties.
A guided tour of the NU campus was organized for the guests, showcasing its research laboratories and educational infrastructure. At the end of the visit, the delegation was shown a commemorative display in the University’s Senate Hall, marking the historic moment when, on September 7, 2013, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping first proposed the “Belt and Road” initiative — an idea that has since evolved into a global strategic economic program.
The GX Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental charitable organization based in Hong Kong, established in 2018. It aims to promote humanitarian medical assistance and people-to-people diplomacy in countries participating in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
