Each year, the Selection Committee identifies the university’s most outstanding researchers, recognizing their achievements and encouraging the further advancement of research activities.
This year, the NU Research Awards laureates were selected in four categories, with each category evaluated separately for the STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) and SSHM (Social Sciences, Humanities, and Management) fields.
In the Emerging Scholar Research Excellence Award category, the winner was Associate Professor Almagul Mentbayeva from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences.
In the Outstanding Scholar Research Excellence Award category, Associate Professor Anas Hajar from the Graduate School of Education received the award in the STEMM field, while Professor Shazim Memon from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences was recognized in the SSHM field.
The Outstanding Career Achievement Research Excellence Award went to Professor Naureen Durran from the Graduate School of Education in the STEMM field, and to Professor Daniele Tosi from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences was recognized in the SSHM field.
The UNSDG Research Excellence Award, recognizing research that has made a transformative contribution to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, was presented to Professor Nurxat Nuraje from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences.
NU President Professor Waqar Ahmad congratulated the winners and wished them continued success in their professional endeavors. “High-quality research is an integral part of NU’s identity as a leading research university in the region,” he noted.
“Today we celebrate the creativity, perseverance, and contributions of our researchers who expand the frontiers of knowledge and innovation every day. Every year, Nazarbayev University evolves and transforms. I am truly proud of what we are accomplishing. It is the result of our collective efforts that have established NU as a hub of discovery and innovation across the region,” said NU Vice Provost for Research and Innovation Zhumabay Bakenov at the official award ceremony.
