The 1st International Conference on Neuroscience and Neurology (ICNN) took place at Nazarbayev University (NU), becoming the first event of its kind in Kazakhstan. According to the organizers, the goal of ICNN is to strengthen cooperation between fundamental science and clinical practice.
“This is the first international conference on neuroscience and neurology in Kazakhstan, and it is also the first to bring together basic neuroscience with clinical neurology,” said Associate Professor Tursonjan Tokay, organizer of ICNN. “Our mission is to integrate the science part of neuroscience with its clinical applications. This is what makes the conference so important.”
This year’s conference attracted around 240 registered participants and 14 keynote speakers. Experts joined from the USA, Russia, Japan, China, Slovakia, the Netherlands, and Georgia, along with specialists from Kazakhstan.
“Strategically, this meeting has demonstrated not only to a local Kazakh audience, but also internationally, that neuroscience research in Kazakhstan is growing rapidly,” said Professor Allan Kalueff of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, China, one of the keynote speakers. “Kazakhstan is becoming a regional global leader in this field. The research is of high international standards, and the main outcome of this conference is to showcase the potential of neuroscience here while building new collaborations — some of which are already being discussed.”
ICNN 2025 marked a milestone for Kazakhstan’s scientific community by positioning the country as a venue for international dialogue in neuroscience and neurology.
This event serves as a premier global platform for the exchange of ideas, research, and innovations in the fields of neuroscience and neurology. It brings together leading scientists, neurologists, researchers, clinicians, and industry professionals from Kazakhstan and other countries to address the latest advancements and challenges in understanding the nervous system, brain and mental disorders, and diagnostic and treatment modalities of those disorders.
The primary aim of the conference is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and bridge the gap between research and clinical practice. The event offers opportunities to present cutting-edge findings, explore novel therapeutic approaches, and engage in meaningful discussions to advance patient care and improve outcomes for neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions.
