On October 4, a tree-planting event took place on the campus of Nazarbayev University, organized by the NU Impact Foundation, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan, and the University’s Office of Sustainability.

The event brought together more than 80 participants, including local and international students as well as UNICEF volunteers. The initiative represents the University’s contribution to the citywide greening and landscaping program led by the Astana Akimat.

“We are proud that our students take an active part in real environmental initiatives. Such activities foster a sense of responsibility among young people for a sustainable future and make our campus greener and more comfortable,” noted Saltanat Bassembekova, Acting Head of the NU Office of Sustainable Development.

Tree planting is part of NU’s long-term efforts to create an environmentally sustainable campus and to integrate the principles of sustainability into student life. The initiative also demonstrates a practical example of the University’s collaboration with international organizations and student engagement in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
