Senior Manager/Survey Coordinator, Office of the Provost


Key functional tasks

1.     Coordinate the design, revision, pre-testing, and implementation of strategic surveys

2.     Conduct interviews and focus groups with students, faculty, and staff to collect qualitative data on issues of strategic interest to the University

3.     Develop and implement policies, procedures, and guidelines to regulate the administration of university-wide and ad-hoc surveys at NU

4.     Develop, maintain and monitor a University survey calendar

5.     In collaboration with other IR staff,  analyze survey and interview data, produce basic as well as complex reports, and disseminate findings

6.     Contribute to the design and delivery of institutional research workshops

7.     Carry out other duties as assigned by the Office of the Provost


Business trips:




Master’s degree in social sciences, education, humanities or business. A doctoral degree is preferred. (Education and experience will be used to determine whether the candidate will be appointed at the Manager or Senior Manager level.)


Desired professional experience (duration, sphere, and other)

1.     A minimum of 3 years of work experience preferably in higher education

2.     Substantial experience conducting survey and/or qualitative research


Professional knowledge and personal qualities

1.     Substantial knowledge of survey design and implementation processes

2.     Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods

3.     Ability to analyze survey data using basic statistics techniques

4.     Ability to analyze qualitative data and summarize emerging themes

5.     Superior writing skills and ability to produce publishable research reports

6.     Ability to work and coordinate with various campus stakeholders all along the survey design and implementation process

7.     Ability to maintain a high level of data confidentiality and security

8.     Strong planning and organizational skills

9.     Ability to be flexible and work independently and as part of a team


Proficiency in languages, including state language, (list of languages)

Fluency in English required; fluency in Russian and Kazakh preferred


Computer skills:

1.     Proficiency with Microsoft Office

2.     Familiarity with survey software (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, etc.).

3.     Experience using statistical software (STATA, R, SPSS, etc.)

4.     Familiarity with qualitative data analysis tools/software (e.g., NVIVO)
