Senior Manager of Department of acquisition and library activity support of «Nazarbayev University Library and IT Services» private entity


Key and functional tasks of the department:

Library collection acquisition, library provision by purchasing services and supplies


Duties and Responsibilities:

–      Library collection acquisition (print books, microfiches etc.);

–      Conduct the agreements of the department;

–      Collaboration with subject librarians, schools, and other departments on issues relating to library collection acquisition;

–      Researching the information needs of library patrons and the effectiveness of the library collection use; analysis of the textbook collection in collaboration with Patron Services;

–      Monitoring the potential vendors market and working with publishers’  catalogs

–      Coordinating contract terms;

–      Monitoring the changes in the publishing industry and studying the publishers’ market;

–      Monitoring copyright issues and its use in the library;

–      Researching the library service and supply market to operate the library;

–      Processing requests from library staff on issues relating to library provision;

–      Preparing analytical notes and reports;

–      Participating in library trainings;

–      Participating in the creation of the budget request for the financial year, in accordance with the managed structural subdivision of the budget articles



A master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an accredited university in the United States, Canada, Europe, or Southeast Asia or undergraduate degree in any field earned on the Bolashak Program; Local equivalent of an MLIS or internship and/or one year in an overseas library studies program or library work


Work experience:

At least 3 years’ relevant experience, or 2 years’ experience following completion of an overseas library studies program


Skills, Abilities, and Personal Qualities Required:

–     Knowledge of the information market;

–     Understanding of information organization;

–     Knowledge of acquisition, accounting, and collection safety  and security; wide cultural background with good knowledge of literature, art, history, philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy;

–     Knowledge of the system of national and international law which regulates copyright;  understanding the role of the library in the system of the digital communications and the problems it faces there; publications;

–     Experience collaborating with information vendors;

–     Advanced level skills in using digital devices (PC, tablet, book reader, etc); working skills with Windows OS and general and special library applications;

–     Ability to search and evaluate information from different sources;

–     Analytical skills, analytical note preparation skills;

–     Communicative, adaptive, communicative, leadership potential, self-starter, able to work in a team



Knowledge of Kazakh, and Russian

Fluent English with a minimum IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 79-93 or a diploma/certificate from a university where English is the language of instruction
