Key and functional tasks of the Department

Post-Award

The Post-Award services provide support in the management of grants and agreements through their entire lifecycle by post-award administrative, budget / financial processes; ensure compliance with sponsor terms and conditions, University policies, and state regulations and requirements.

Key and functional tasks of the position

Coordinate and administer post-award activities related to research projects to maximize funding opportunities and limit financial deviations;

Review and interpret legal documents for financial terms and conditions including but not limited to billing requirements, reporting, and spending restrictions;

Apply costing rules and regulations to Sponsors and NU funded projects;

Work collaboratively with Schools’ and Centers’ Representatives, University Departments to clarify financial terms and ensure correct account setup, to ensure compliance with sponsor’s requirements and university’s policies;

Manage University research funding database and prepare financial status reports to University and as requested by University Faculty and Researchers, and ensure reports are submitted timely to meet sponsor’s requirements;

Monitor and report on research project activity, including cost overruns, cost sharing and unallowable/administrative expenses, throughout project lifecycle to ensure compliance. Perform final award closeouts for assigned departments or sponsor award range;

Undertake other duties as required by Director of Research Administration, Vice-Provost for Research, The Office of the Provost.

Education

Must possess education and qualifications at Bachelor’s degree level or above in Economics, Finance or Accounting, preferably from the higher education institutions with English language of instruction and medium of assessment.

Required professional experience 

Strong knowledge in accounting concepts and analysis of accounting transactions related to research activities;

Experienced with Financial and Accounting Standards.

Professional competence and personal qualities

Knowledge of research administration processes, contract and grant procedures and ability to apply the financial and accounting practices;

Strong customer service skills;

Ability to independently diagnose and solve problems using sound judgment and decision-making abilities.

Proficiency in languages

Proficiency in the English, Russian and Kazakh languages.

Computer Literacy

Strong working knowledge of Excel and 1C, PURE is preferable.
