Key and functional tasks of the Department

Research Integrity

The Research Integrity will organize the work of the Nazarbayev University Institutional Research Ethics Committee (IREC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Bio and chemical safety Committee (BC) ensuring the efficiency and performance of their activities and running their documentation.

Key and functional tasks of the position

Coordinate the business of the IREC, IACUC and BC, be accountable for efficient and effective functioning of the committees including: preparing agendas, providing technical support and consulting services to the initiators, distributing committee papers, recording and preparing accurate minutes, executing all decisions of the committee, running documentation, preparing reports and briefings for the Chairs of committee, Director of Research Administration, Vice-Provost for Research, Provost as required;

Responsible for processing, preparing and sending general correspondence to researchers regarding the decisions of the IREC, IACUC and BC including approvals, conditional approvals and other correspondence related to research protocols and modifications, adhering to set deadlines;

Organizing and facilitating ad hoc meetings or ethical reviews outside of scheduled IREC, IACUC and BC meetings;

Assist the ongoing development of ethics processes, for example the introduction and implementation of new operating procedures and policies, and participating in training activities;

Manage and update information in the Nazarbayev University ethics databases and ensure documents and links on ethics website are up to date in liaison with website administrator;

Undertake other duties as required by Vice-Provost for Research, The Office of the Provost.


Must possess education and qualifications at Master’s degree level or above, preferably from the higher education institutions with English language of instruction and medium of assessment.   

Required professional experience 

Work experience must meet one of the following requirements:

with PhD degree, professional experience should be not less than 3 years, including 1-2 years of managerial work experience; or

with Master’s degree, professional experience should be not less than 5 years, including 2-3 years of managerial work experience; or

with Specialist or Bachelor degree, work experience should be at least 7 years, including 2-3 years at  managerial position, or in the areas corresponding to the functional areas of a concrete position in the public service, international and/or national companies, or at least 3 years of managerial work experience at the University.

Strong customer service skills;

Ability to independently diagnose and solve problems using sound judgment and decision-making abilities;

Strong ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, ethical practice.

Proficiency in languages

Proficiency in the English, Russian and Kazakh languages.

Computer Literacy

Ms Office and other related applications.
