Key and functional tasks of the department
Cosmology Theory, Data, and/or Instrumentation (Electronics & VHDL/FPGA, automation, network linked devices, and telescopes)
Key and functional tasks of research assistant
– for theorists, to model and predict astrophysical systems and measurements, to predict behavior of systems and measurements.
-if experimental candidate, to aid in the fabrication of astronomical telescope instruments;
-to work with electronics hardware or firmware coding;
-to do experiments with MKIDs cryogenic sensor data acquisition systems
-to work with high frequency frontier of electronics and FPGA programming.
Theory candidates will pursue independent research related to ECLs core mission in collaboration with Prof. Linder from University of California in Berkeley, USA, Nobel Prize laurate in physics, Prof. Smoot, or collaborators,
Experimental candidates will develop, fabricate, and de-bug astrophysics instrumentation, at the same time as working toward publications in astrophysics or measurements for astrophysics.
Higher, masters, specialist or bachelor’s degree in:
Desired professional experience
Experience in theoretical research, or experience in instrumentation.
Professional skills and personal characteristics
– Theoretical background in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, electronics and mechanics;
– Knowledge of installation methods of instrumentation, including experiment, fabrication and testing, and electronics.
-Knowledge in computer programming and instrument network communications.
Proficiency in languages
English (oral / written) – fluent;
Knowledge of programming languages, linux and windows systems desired.
