The School of Humanities & Social Sciences (SHSS) at Nazarbayev University invites applications for an Assistant Professor/Open Rank position with a specialization in Language Acquisition / Applied Linguistics, French and Francophone Studies. The position requires a Ph.D. in Linguistics, or a related field. A successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory through advanced courses in Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, Language Pedagogy, and also importantly in French and Francophone Studies. We seek a candidate with an exemplary and ongoing record of research, demonstrated excellence in undergraduate (graduate) teaching, commitment to active involvement in the life of the Department and the School, and a capability to mentor senior undergraduates in application to graduate programs. An ideal candidate would also have experience in instructional technology and computational linguistics, including CALL.

This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal, and it carries a 2/2 teaching load.

The Department of Languages, Linguistics and Literatures at SHSS currently has eleven full-time and 3 part-time faculty representing a variety of disciplines in the domain of languages, linguistics and national literatures. The Department has one of the fastest growing major counts in the School and is adding an array of literature, linguistics and language course offerings in the 2018-2019 academic year.

The Department is housed within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences which offers six majors and has approximately 700 students.
