NU research is supported by the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, local and international organizations, and is carried out in the Schools, Research Centers and Institutes.
Kanat Dukenbayev, PhD
Head of National Grant Funding and Management
Kanat Dukenbayev is a Head of National Grant Funding and Management of Research Services Office at Nazarbayev University (NU). He received his Ph.D. in 2011 from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland) and later in 2013 become Post-Doctoral Researcher at University of Cambridge, Department of Physics, Cavendish Laboratory (UK). Currently he is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Graduate School of Public Policy of the Nazarbayev University.
As Head of National Grant Funding and Management, he is responsible for liaising with Ministries and Governmental bodies in Kazakhstan to identify and facilitate funding opportunities for the Nazarbayev University research community.
Senior Manager for Research Operations and Risk Management
Assel Narymbetova is a Senior Manager for research operations and risk management of Research Services Office at Nazarbayev University. She received her MA in Applied Economics from Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, USA). Before joining NU Assel Narymbetova held a position of Head of Analytical Research Department for 4 years in National Center for Transport Logistics Development, the advisory center for Ministry of Transport and Communications RK and the main transport holding of the country “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”.s Senior Manager for research operations and risk management, she is responsible for managing Research Council meetings and documentation, managing Institutional Research Ethics Committee work and documentation, developing major research related policies, procedures and guidelines at NU, completing Operational Plan of NU on research matters, research risk management and all operational issues in research services of NU.

Aiman Temirova is Manager for International Grants Management and Statistics and Analytics in the Research Services Office. She holds a BSc in Biology (Honors) from the George Washington University and a Master of Economics and Public Policy from 3 French grandes écoles: Sciences Po Paris, Ecole Polytechnique, and ENSAE.
Aiman joined Nazarbayev University in 2014. As Manager for International Grant Management and Statistics and Analytics, Aiman is responsible for helping Nazarbayev University faculty and students with international grants, providing information on current and future research-related funding opportunities, preparing the research statistics and analytics for NU using international research management tools PURE, SciVal, and Scopus, providing research trainings for the NU community, and releasing monthly issues of the Research Newsletter.
