Our Mission
The mission of NU's Disability and Special Learning Needs support services is to support and empower students by providing accommodations, resources, and advocacy. We strive to promote a culture of inclusion and accessibility within the campus community.
Definitions of Disabilities and Special Learning Needs
At NU, we understand disability as a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Disability covers a wide range of physical and mental impairments that may or may not be visible.
Special learning needs include conditions that are physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, and psychological in nature and impede a student’s access to the Nazarbayev University environment, learning content, or assessment practices of their courses or programs. These conditions can be temporary, permanent, or intermittent and must be diagnosed or validated by a recognized assessor, such as a medical practitioner or psychiatrist.
Eligibility
NU has established a Special Learning Needs Committee (SLNC) to provide academic support to students with qualified special learning needs. If you feel that this applies to you, please follow the steps outlined below:
1. Send an email in English to the Special Learning Needs Committee explaining your condition in detail. SLNC@nu.edu.kz
2. Provide medical documentation of your disability or special learning need for verification.
3. Complete the accommodation request form that will be shared with you by an assigned SLNC committee member.
4. The committee member will arrange an accommodation meeting with you and a representative from your school.
5. Following this, an official academic accommodation letter will be sent to you.
