Her thesis contributes to understanding how water security is perceived in Central Asia and whether river basin management can strengthen water security in Kazakhstan. As part of the doctoral program, she completed research internships at Oulu University (Finland) and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (Netherlands) in 2021.
Our next NU Step to PhD guest is Andas Amrin, a PhD graduate in Science, Engineering, and Technology at NU SEDS. Previously, he received a master’s degree from the University of Shanghai in Science and Technology and a bachelor’s degree from Kazakhstan National Technical University.
On the 10th of January, elections to the Mazhilis and Maslikhats were held in Kazakhstan. We are pleased to inform you that two NU alumni were elected as deputies to the Mazhilis of the Parliament and Maslikhat of Almaty city.
On June 14, 2020, NU hosted a virtual Graduation ceremony. The 2020 Ceremony is special as this year NU celebrates its tenth anniversary and for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Ceremony was digital.

The first Master’s program completion ceremony took place at the NU Graduate School of Education. 46 graduates of the University became Masters of Science in Educational Leadership, with a specialization in higher and secondary education.
Today doctoral studies will begin for the first cohort of 12 students, most of them graduates of the Master’s programmes of foreign universities. The launch of the PhD programme at NU provides an opportunity for students to continue their education and receive a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Education in Kazakhstan.
This group includes 119 graduates of Kazakhstani schools, 33 prize winners of national and international school subject Olympiads and 7 people who have successfully completed Foundation at universities abroad. Another 24 people are NU transfer candidates from other universities (there were 28 candidates in 2012).
Before that time all the students were supposed to start with the Foundation program at the Centre for Preparatory Studies. Overall 172 people would like to apply to the Undergraduate program without going to the Centre for Preparatory Studies (Foundation Program) first.
