VII Annual Meeting of the Offices of the Registrar 2022

The VII Annual Meeting of the Offices of the Registrar 2022 was held on the Nazarbayev University's campus on October 6-7, 2022, where more than 200 representatives of academic units from 70 universities from 14 regions, and 22 cities participated.

During the meeting of the Offices of the Registrar, 15 information sessions were held. They covered a wide range of topical issues in the academic field, including academic support for Ph.D. students, digitalization of the admissions process and document flow, principles of academic advising, online registration issues, the role of the Office of the Registrar in the quality assurance system, and other issues related to the management of processes of the Office of the Registrar and interacting departments. Apart from Nazarbayev University, representatives of S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrarian University, the American University of Phnom Penh, Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, M. Narikbaev KAZGUU University, and Platonus company delivered a good quality speech to an audience.

As part of the VII Annual Meeting of the Offices of the Registrar in 2022, a panel session was held with the participation of Ruslan Kaisarbayev, Director of the Department of digitalization, information security and automation of public services of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry (MDDIAI) and Yersultan Yermanov, Director of the Department of Information Technology Industry Development of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MSHE) of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the panel session, the representatives of the ministries shared the news on the signing of a memorandum with the global online learning platform Coursera, where it will become possible for Kazakhstani educational institutions to publish their courses. It is noteworthy that the discussion of issues related to the National Education Database proved to be the key component of the panel session, as participants were able to openly and freely share the challenges of manual data entry and common website errors. As a result, a proposal was made to create a working committee to optimize the work of state structures with higher ed institutions. Representatives of Ministries supported this.

NU Office of the Registrar expresses gratitude to Argin Kipshakov, Executive Vice-President of Nazarbayev University, for his active involvement in the discussions on the process's academic optimization and for his assistance in establishing the working group.

Summing up, the VII Annual Meeting of the Offices of the Registrar 2022 once again demonstrated the importance and necessity of having a platform in place for discussing topical issues and sharing experiences among university professionals. At the closing ceremony, Registrar and General Director for Student Progress Rebecca Carter emphasized that the Office of the Registrar is working to make processes and procedures accessible to both students and the university as a whole.
