BOOK PRESENTATION «Central Asia-2050: Unleashing the Region’s Potential» in the framework of the 2016 EURASIA MEETING OF THE EMERGING MARKETS FORUM
The presentation of the book «Central Asia-2050: Unleashing the Region’s Potential» took place during the 2016 Eurasia Meeting of the Emerging Markets Forum in Astana on September 13, 2016.
The book «Central Asia-2050: Unleashing the Region’s Potential» is a result of the study on “Development Prospect of Central Asia through 2050” conducted by a group of international experts of the Emerging Markets Forum and “National Analytical Center” JSC procured by “Nazarbayev University” AEO.
The prominent experts such as Mr. Pradeep Mitra, Former Chief Economist of the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank, Mr. John Nellis, Consultant at the World Bank, and Mr. S. Frederick Starr, the founding Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute at J. Hopkins University greatly contributed to the book.
The book suggests different scenarios of the Central Asian region’s economies development in the first half of the XXI century. Particularly, the book identifies several specific areas, including the economic development of the region, development of the energy and agriculture sectors, human development, climate change issues, regional integration, and building of effective institutions. The findings of the study raised great interest among experts and researchers.
The president of “Nazarbayev University” AEO, Mr. Shigeo Katsu, took part in the work of the 2016 Eurasia Meeting. The book was presented by the editors of the book, including Mr. Harinder Kohli, Chief Executive of the Emerging Markets Forum, Mr. Rajat Nag, Distinguished Fellow of the Emerging Markets Forum, and Mr. Johannes Linn, Distinguished Resident Scholar of the Emerging Markets Forum.
Experts from the Central Asian region, representatives of regional and international organizations took an active part in discussing the key sections of the book.
