The Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at NU launched the Soyle App, a multifunctional application for speech recognition, voice synthesis, and text and speech translation into four languages.

Powered by Kazakhstan’s foundational speech model, the Soyle App is a groundbreaking AI product developed to enhance multilingual communication for Kazakhstani audiences and beyond. This release marks a major milestone after five years of research by ISSAI’s team.

"This is a 100% Kazakh IT product: everything from the core of the artificial intelligence module to the design was created by ISSAI professionals. It solves a strategically important issue for the country - ensuring the information security of users who trust online translators with their content. In addition, it promotes the study of the Kazakh language, since it is integrated with the speech model," noted Ulzhan Bisarinova, Soyle App product manager and ISSAI data analyst.

The app enables speech recognition, voice synthesis, and instant translation across Kazakh, Russian, English, and Turkish, serving as a versatile communication tool within Kazakhstan’s growing digital landscape. Soyle App’s translation quality, measured by BLEU scores on the FLoRes benchmark dataset, outperforms comparable tools like Google Translate, Yandex Translate, and GPT-4o, reflecting its superior accuracy for Kazakh, Russian, English, and Turkish translations.

Key Functions

  • Speech recognition, speech synthesis, and translation: Core features of Soyle App include accurate speech transcription, natural-sounding voice synthesis, and instant translation of text and speech between supported languages.
  • Intuitive user interface: The application is designed with the needs of the Kazakhstani audience in mind, offering a user-friendly and intuitive interface for communication in the native or preferred language.
  • Access modes: Soyle App offers both interactive in-app features and an API, enabling seamless integration of its capabilities for individual users and businesses.

As ISSAI’s first AI product following its transformation, Soyle App highlights the Institute’s commitment to advancing AI solutions for Kazakhstan’s unique needs. Developed by a team of Kazakhstani researchers, it showcases the expertise of the nation’s AI talent and contributes to Kazakhstan’s emergence in the field of AI. Additionally, Soyle App allows voice-based interaction with large language models through its API, marking a significant step toward enhancing voice-enabled AI capabilities in the region and contributing to the usage of Kazakh language.
