NU hosted the inaugural Republican Conference of the Kazakhstan Society of Geneticists and Breeders, bringing together approximately 100 leading Kazakhstani scientists on March 12–13, 2025.

The National Laboratory Astana (NLA) at NU organized the conference with the support of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In his opening remarks, Professor Dos Sarbassov, General Director of NLA and Vice Dean of the NU SSH, emphasized geneticists and breeders' crucial role in advancing the country's well-being, particularly in agriculture, medicine, and biosafety.

"Kazakhstan faces the challenge of modernizing these fields, which necessitates consolidating the scientific community and implementing innovative technologies. We have vast opportunities for research and technological advancement. Today, leading scientists and laboratories in genetics and breeding have gathered here, ready for active collaboration," Professor Sarbassov stated, highlighting NLA NU's commitment to cooperation and knowledge exchange.

The conference program featured 20 presentations covering human genetics and the genetics and breeding of animals, plants, and microorganisms. During the assembly, Academician Yerlan Turuspekov, head of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics at the Institute of Biology and Biotechnology of Plants, was elected chair of the Society. The newly established Society aims to serve as a key platform for scientific collaboration, innovation, professional development, and the determination of research priorities while fostering the integration of science and industry.
