Yeligay Segizbay, a fourth-year student at Nazarbayev University's School of Sciences and Humanities (SSH), took part in the prestigious SNAIA – CRISTMAS 2024 Science and Technology Conference held in Paris last December.

Her presentation on “Modeling and Numerical Simulations for 1D magMEMS Oscillators” attracted the attention of attendees and marked a significant step in her academic career.

The project, which began in her third year under the guidance of Associate Professor Piotr Sebastian Skrzypacz from SSH NU, explores the force between magnets, with the goal of developing an oscillator (a system that performs oscillations) with precise measurements. For her participation, Yeligay received a certificate and the unique opportunity to publish her article in a specialized scientific journal. Currently, she and Professor Skrzypacz are preparing a scientific paper for the InSTEMM Journal Special Issue, which they plan to submit in February.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, participation in the conference opened doors to the international scientific community, allowing her to establish valuable connections with leading researchers and professors from around the world.

"Currently, I am in the final year of my undergraduate degree in mathematics. These four years have been a time of exploration and self-discovery. During the first two years, I interned with major companies such as the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, Ernst & Young, and the British Council. In my third year, I decided to dedicate myself to research and become a research assistant. This was a turning point that solidified my desire to pursue an academic career. In the future, I plan to continue my studies in a master’s program and then pursue a PhD in applied mathematics. My goal is to build a career in science," said Yeligay, sharing her future plans.

The SNAIA – CRISTMAS 2024 conference, organized by STEMM Global and SNAIA, took place in Paris and brought together leading experts from various scientific fields. Topics discussed at the event included photonics, optoelectronics, chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. According to the sponsorship agreement, the Social Development Fund of NU covered the expenses for the flight, visa, and participation in the conference.
