“Our standing as the best university in Central Asia and Caucasus in these demanding rankings highlights our world-class credentials in research, teaching, industry engagement and international outlook. These are impressive results for a university this young, we will be celebrating our 15th anniversary next year. We will build on our achievements in the years to come,” said NU President, Professor Waqar Ahmad, who prior to taking a position at NU was President of Abu Dhabi University, now ranked 191 in these rankings.
NU ranks fifth among CIS universities, along with National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, and Tomsk State University, which are also in the 501-600 bracket.
Earlier this year NU was placed 129th in THE Asia University Rankings, and 106th in THE Young University Rankings. In addition, 22 of NU’s subjects are ranked in the THE Subject Rankings, with education, social sciences, engineering and computer science getting the highest scores.
NU owes its high ranking to its excellence in research and research-led teaching. 35 NU researchers entered Stanford’s top 2% of the world’s most cited scientists list. Professor Ahmad went on to say, “NU is the engine of research in Kazakhstan. Not only do we represent 35 out of the total 51 researchers featured in Stanford University’s top 2% researcher list, but we also produce a significant proportion of the country’s highest-ranked research output. And through collaboration with other Kazakh universities, we are enhancing standards in higher education.”
