NU President receives a State Peace and Progress Prize of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Share this articleOn December 8, 2020, for the outstanding contribution to the development of education and science, strengthening of peace and friendship, mutual trust between peoples the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded Mr. Shigeo Katsu, NU President.
The corresponding decree on the State Peace and Progress Prize of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy 2020 is published on the Akorda website.
Mr. Shigeo Katsu is President of NU, a position he has held since December 2010. He also holds such positions as Chairman of the Board of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, Board member of Nazarbayev Fund and Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Heartland Jýsan Bank JSC.
In addition to his responsibilities at the university, he is a member of the National Commission on the Modernization of the Republic of Kazakhstan and serves as advisor to international and bilateral development institutions. In 2010/2011 he authored a chapter of “Asia, 2050: Realizing the Asian Century” by the Asian Development Bank, in 2014 he served as an editor for the book “Kazakhstan 2050 – Towards a Modern Society for All” (2014), and in 2015/16 was involved in the book “Central Asia 2050 – Unleashing the Region’s Potential”.
Together with Mr. Katsu, the President of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition Toregeldy Sharmanov received a State Peace and Progress Prize for his outstanding contribution to the development of the field of medicine, strengthening of peace and friendship, mutual trust between the peoples.
