On September 28, NU participated in the "THE University Impact Forum: Quality Education 2022" forum, held in Baku, Azerbaijan on the basis of the Western Caspian University.

This is the second THE event held in the Eurasia region after the conference in Kazan, Russia in August 2018. In addition to discussions on the quality and access of education in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the forum included an exclusive master class on data, dedicated to the study of the methodology THE Impact Ranking with a focus on achieving SDG 4 (SDG 4 - quality education) by universities.

The forum hosted sessions on the following topics: “The best is yet to come: why quality education is key to solving the challenges of the next generation”, “Equity in education: is online education the answer to reaching SDG 4 targets?”, “Making waves: what role does accessible, quality education have in eradicating environmental threats?”, “What does a wholly climate-conscious curriculum look like?”.

The Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs, Loretta O’Donnell, was the speaker from NU at the session on the topic “No one left behind: Can SDG 4 enable universities to deliver to those in need?”. Dr. O'Donnell highlighted NU's strong academic and non-academic support of students, including international students, during periods of disruption. This was consistent with the theme of the panel: "The university sector has a responsibility to be global citizens". Dr. O'Donnell also noted the importance of creative assessments during the pandemic period, and that many innovations have now become embedded in pedagogy.

Other speakers were Keklik Gezalova – Vice-rector of academic initiatives at Western Caspian, Thomas Kruessmann – President of the Association of European Studies for the Caucasus, Səməd Seyidov – Vice-chair of the monitoring committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Along with the forum, the head of the Office of Global Relations, Aliya Kaimoldinova, held a series of meetings with representatives of Azerbaijani universities, including ADA University, West Caspian University and Khazar University to forge future cooperation and student exchange ties.
