This day, each participant had a unique opportunity to plunge into geek culture, thanks to quests, contests, and a cosplay event (or as it is also known as costume show).
The NU GeekFestival also featured an entertaining and informative fair of educational programs, where professors and representatives of Nazarbayev University’s schools answered questions, held master classes and talked about the nuances of admission to foundation year program, bachelor, master, and doctoral programs.
Among the participants of this year’s festival, representatives of cyber-sports organizations of Kazakhstan, more than 7 000 residents and guests of the capital, fans of geek culture, cosplayers, and special guests of the event -players of the hockey club “Barys” Batyrlan Muratov and Iiro Pakarinen. At the club’s autograph session, everyone received an autograph and a photo with the players.
“For our university NU GeekFestival – is a new direction, last year we held such an event for the first time and hope that it will become a tradition for all cyber-athletes and fans of geek culture from all Kazakhstan,” – said Kadisha Dairova, Vice President for Student Affairs and International Cooperation of Nazarbayev University.
In the large-scale game zone of the NU Geek Festival, everyone was able to play on computers and consoles, participate in tournaments in various Esports – Dota2, CS:GO, Hearthstone, FIFA and Mortal Combat. All visitors participated in free competitions, and the most successful and active received valuable prizes from the partners of the event.
“It is so nice to be back my beloved alma mater. This is the second year I’ve been helping to organize such an interesting cyber-sports event. The choice of the declared cyber disciplines is caused by the increased interest of today’s youth in virtual battles. I hope that in future this festival will become a kind of feature of Nazarbayev University”, – said Rustem Kushtaev, Executive director of the Kazakhstani Esports Federation.
This day, the guests of the NU Geek Festival had at their disposal 3,000 square meters of entertainment, master classes, games, exhibition stands, a fair of geek goods and gifts.
