The parties agreed to conduct joint educational programs, research, and exchange of students and professors.

On April 30-May 2, an NU delegation visited leading universities and schools in Uzbekistan to strengthen ties and build bridges of cooperation between the two countries. Over the three days, the delegation met with representatives of the Kazakh Embassy in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Higher Education and Innovation of Uzbekistan, and the management of educational institutions, including the National University of Uzbekistan, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent Medical Academy, New Uzbekistan University, OXUS University, and others. During the meetings, the parties discussed cooperation issues in education and science.

As noted by NU Acting President, Dr Ilesanmi Adesida, at a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Innovation of Uzbekistan, NU is among the top 30% of research universities in the world according to Times Higher Education (THE) and well ahead of other universities in Central Asia and the Caucasus, which confirms NU's status as a recognized leader in higher education in the region, as well as the hard work, talent and ambition of the entire NU community.

"NU was also ranked in the top 11% of all universities in Asia by THE, ranking 129th out of 1,127 universities, again underscoring NU's commitment to quality education and research and the feasibility of creating a world-class research university," said Dr Adesida. We are very proud of our talented students, faculty, and staff, who are dedicated to integrity and continuous excellence."

Representatives of the Uzbek agency spoke about educational reforms in the country, the full transition of Uzbek universities to academic, financial, organizational, and managerial independence, and the fact that the number of universities has grown significantly. Over the past seven years, the coverage of young people in higher education has increased from 9% to 42%.

"NU's visit to Uzbekistan is a vivid example of the development of our cooperation with Kazakhstani universities. Moreover, we are developing cooperation in science and research. We already have several platforms for cooperation and exchange of views, including the Forum of Rectors of Central Asian Countries, where we meet with colleagues from leading Kazakh universities. We will develop our cooperation further," emphasized Mukhamedaziz Khakimov, Chief specialist of the Department of International Cooperation.

At the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the delegation met with the First Deputy Chairman of the Oliy Majlis's Senate, Rector Sodik Safoyev, with whom they discussed joint educational programs and the exchange of students and teachers.

An agreement was reached with one of the oldest medical universities in Uzbekistan - Tashkent Medical Academy - to conclude a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Academy and NU School of Medicine, where, in addition to training specialists for medicine and health care, research is conducted in the field of biomedical and chemical engineering.

It is worth noting that the first NU partner university in Uzbekistan is the New University of Uzbekistan (NUU), with which the Memorandum of Understanding was signed back in October last year.

"Our side is ready to conduct training for Uzbek leaders in education within the framework of the Academic leadership program. We also intend to hold NU Open House Day in Tashkent and NU entrance exams. We will be glad to cooperate more closely," said Aida Sagintayeva, Dean of the NU Graduate School of Education, at a meeting with NUU officials, adding that the university plans to work closely with Central Asian universities.

The three-day visit to Uzbekistan paved the way for long-term cooperation between NU and educational institutions of Uzbekistan and, in general, the expansion of educational boundaries in Central Asia. The university delegation of Kazakhstan thanked the Uzbek side for their hospitality and invited ministry representatives, as well as university heads and professors of universities, to visit the NU campus in Astana in the near future.
