The signed memorandum focuses on fostering educational, scientific, innovative, and research cooperation between a British-Swedish pharmaceutical company known for its strong commitment to medical and pharmacological research. Its aim is to enhance the quality of training and retraining programs.
"The signing of this memorandum with AstraZeneca is an important step in our commitment to enhancing the educational and scientific environment in Kazakhstan. With our outstanding medical school and teaching hospitals, and world-class research in human biology, we are already the premier teaching and research university in medicine and health care in Central Asia. The NU School of Medicine is expanding its research partnerships and its teaching with the launch of a six-year undergraduate program in medicine. We are confident that this collaboration will lead to important areas of research and innovations in the field of medicine, ultimately benefiting society as a whole," said President of NU Professor Waqar Ahmad.
Both parties have agreed to collaborate actively in critical areas of healthcare, science, innovation, and medicine. This cooperation includes organizing educational events and hosting joint competitions for student research, project work, and consulting, with incentives for the best contributions. Experts will also be engaged in joint projects, while efforts will be made to improve staff qualifications and provide professional internships for students.
The memorandum is set to be in effect for two years.
Head of AstraZeneca in Kazakhstan Maria Shipuleva: "The development of innovative pharmaceuticals is closely related to research activities. That is why we are developing cooperation with the world's leading higher education institutions (HEIs), including the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, as well as with the largest HEIs in the countries where we operate. The memorandum of cooperation between AstraZeneca and Nazarbayev University covers our joint plans to help talented students develop their professional skills and gain experience in science and innovation-oriented businesses. We believe that this partnership will not only help students realize their potential to the fullest and find their place but also contribute to the long-term development of research activities in Kazakhstan in general."
