Nazarbayev University students are the winners of the sport tournaments

In 2017, Nazarbayev University students became winners of various national as well as international sport events. Men’s football team won the first place in FFA Astana Students’ League and took part in the Silk Way International Football Cup in Hannot city, China, and Women’s football team won the third place in the Astana Universiade Futsal Tournament. Both Men’s and Women’s basketball teams became winners of «Nazarbayev University Cup». In addition, Nazarbayev University cheerleaders team were named champions of the republican and city tournaments numerous times.

 One of the brightest representatives is Nazarbayev University School of Science and Technology second year student Moldir Mekenbayeva, who won the first place in three republican and two international «Nottingham International Open», «Abu-Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour» competitions on jiu-jitsu.

According to Askhat Bekzhanov, director of the Department for Student Affairs, despite the absence of physical training as a compulsory academic subject, Nazarbayev University provides the most favorable opportunities for sports and student participation in various sports competitions. Now, the university has nine teams and 29 sports clubs.

Starting from 2013, a modern two-storey sports center was built on the campus of Nazarbayev University, and its total area is ​​6,700 square meters. Numerous sports events that correspond to international sports events organization standards were held here. There are halls for football, volleyball, tennis, yoga, fitness, dancing, wrestling, boxing, and basketball. In 2016, the hall for basketball was equipped with a special professional floor coating.

Moreover, in 2018, it is planned to launch a new student sport complex with a total area 14,000 square meters, with a swimming pool and areas for practicing tennis, squash, table tennis, fencing, martial arts, archery, etc. In addition to the abovementioned, a game room, a climbing wall, as well as five gyms will operate there.
