Nazarbayev University started the executive training program for top managers of small and medium-size enterprises
The Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business (NUGSB) welcomed entrepreneurs and SME leaders from all over Kazakhstan to its campus on April 8th for the SME Executive Development Program. The program, part of the Kazakhstan State Program, “Business Roadmap – 2020,” is sponsored and funded by the Ministry of Regional Development and supported by DAMU JSC, member of Samruk Kazyna and the international accountancy firm, Ernst & Young.
This high profile program is aimed to provide business education and support to Kazakhstani entrepreneurs and SME leaders who want to significantly grow their business. The program is designed and is being delivered by faculty from Duke Corporate Education, part of Duke University (USA) in association with Nazarbayev University, and will last approximately 5 – 6 months. “The job of the entrepreneur is making the transition from doing the business to growing the business, and this course confronts this difficult challenge head on,” stated Robert Rosenfeld, Duke Corporate Education faculty member leading the course.
Due to the past success of the program, a total of 420 students, twice the number of students in each of the first two years, are taking part in the program this year. The program commences with a 3 day residential module held at Nazarbayev University in Astana. A few weeks after the residential module, there will be a series of three on-line webinars with Kazakhstani business experts in the areas of legislation, finance, and consulting.
Participants will be provided with a template to help them write up a comprehensive market feasibility plan. After obtaining personal feedback, the participants are then required to complete a more in-depth business plan. The individuals with the highest quality business plans are asked to present them to a panel of judges at the program graduation ceremony in October 2013.
“We are committed to developing the business leaders and entrepreneurs who will drive social progress and economic development in Kazakhstan in the 21st century. Our SME Executive Development Program provides participating entrepreneurs with the tools, strategies, and confidence needed to assess new opportunities, determine commercial feasibility, and launch new businesses,” pointed out Ramon O’Callaghan, Dean of the NUGSB.
