NU (NU) and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) inked the partnership agreement during the visit of the KENTECH delegation to the NU campus, bringing the two innovative and forward-looking institutions together.
As part of the MoU, the parties agreed to hold joint academic events, as well as conduct faculty and student exchange programs, internship opportunities in the energy-related areas. NU and KENTECH share common values centered around delivering excellence in education and pioneering research.
Dr. Ilesanmi Adesida, Acting President of NU, welcoming the South Korean delegation noted the importance of the two universities working jointly toward making a contribution to the global sustainable energy sector and advancing innovative solutions in the renewable energy field. Dr. Adesida underscored their shared goal of advancing sustainable energy solutions, especially considering Kazakhstan's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 under the Paris Agreement.
NU has long been dedicated to developing applied and commercial advancements, aligned with Kazakhstan's priorities. The focus is on fostering energy resources in partnership with international and Kazakh universities and industry representatives. By expanding its Schools, research centers, and laboratories, NU aims to establish itself as a leading scientific hub in physics, chemistry, materials science, and information technology, with a specific emphasis on clean and efficient forms of energy and resource optimization.
KENTECH is a modern energy research university, established in 2021 by the South Korean government. The institute aims to lead future energy research and serve as the Energy Cluster Hub in South Korea by becoming one of top 10 global universities in the field of energy by 2050.
“We are super excited and delighted that NU and KENTECH can sign this MoU. I think that KENTECH and NU have a lot in common in many ways. They both are newer and young institutions and have a strong push for innovation and international development and collaboration. We, at KENTECH, are very aware of NU’s reputation and dedication to academic excellence and a strong commitment to creating an even stronger international academic presence,” highlighted his enthusiasm about the partnership Professor Doo Seokgwang Director of the KENTECH Institute of Energy Materials and Devices.
The Korea Institute of Energy Technology adopted the latest innovative practices of a student-centered education approach to teaching and learning, being the first Korean university incorporating Minerva as an official curriculum and building a high-tech learning environment. KENTECH focuses on accelerating the transition towards a safe and clean energy driven society through intense cooperative research activities in new energy technology.
In light of this partnership, the Korean delegation proposed the establishment of a joint research platform. The universities are determined to pool their academic resources, foster cooperation among researchers, and advance energy technologies, promoting synergy between Kazakhstan and South Korea in the energy and technology sectors.
