Nazarbayev University hosts “My Kazakhstan” photo exhibition of the Kazakhstan National Geographic Society

From January 10 to January 31, the joint exhibition of the works of photo contests “My Kazakhstan” of the Kazakhstan National Geographic Society QazaqGeography and “The most beautiful country” of the Russian Geographical Society will be held at Nazarbayev University. The exhibition will present 41 photos of nature, people and cities of Kazakhstan and Russia.

The “My Kazakhstan” photo contest  was held from July 25 to October 24 of 2017 in order to find the best photos that show the nature, people and cities of Kazakhstan from new and unexpected perspectives. The contest was comprised of three series: “Such different Kazakhstan: nature” (July 25 – August 24), “Such different Kazakhstan: people” (August 25 – September 24) and “Such different Kazakhstan: cities” (September 25 – October 24). The jury included such eminent Kazakhstan photographers as Yerbolat Shadrakhov, Turar Kazangapov and Arman Zhenikeyev.

“The most beautiful country” photo contest  is an annual project of the Russian Geographical Society, which has been organized since 2015. In the contest of this year, photos in the nominations “The most beautiful country. Landscape”, “World in Our Hands”, “Peoples of Russia”, “Caves of Russia”, “Wild Animals”, “Birds”, “Macroworld”, “Underwater World”, “Young Photographer”, “Cultural Heritage of Russia”, “From dusk till dawn”, “Russia from a bird’s eye view” and “Audience Choice Award” were under consideration. Works of the participants were assessed by the President of the Russian Geographical Society Sergei Shoigu, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on environmental protection, ecology and transport Sergey Ivanov, as well as well-known photographers and cultural figures: Sergey Gorshkov, Timur Bekmambetov, Vadim Gorbatov, Daniil Korzhonov, Sergey Shanin and Dmitriy Utkin.

The exhibition presents the best works of all series and nominations of photo contests “My Kazakhstan” and “The most beautiful country”, as well as photos from the expeditions of the Kazakhstan National Geographic Society. 

The Republican Public Association «Kazakhstan National Geographic Society» (QazaqGeography), established in October of 2013, works in five directions: geography, climate;  environment, natural resources; biodiversity; tourism, travel, local history; historical and cultural heritage, ethnography.

Currently 11 representative offices are opened in the following regions: Almaty, Akmola, Aktyubinsk, Eastern Kazakhstan, Western Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Mangystau, Pavlodar, Northern Kazakhstan and Southern Kazakhstan regions.
