Nazarbayev University holds seminar-training for librarians

January 22-23, 2018 the Nazarbayev University Library conducts a training seminar on “Media and Information Literacy” together with the International Journalism Center MediaNet and IREX Europe with the support of the British Embassy in Kazakhstan, as well as the Association of Libraries of Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The aim of the seminar is to increase the awareness of librarians about information and media literacy, its promotion in libraries and library users’ communities; increase knowledge of the media, Internet security; training in critical thinking skills and media content analysis to further transfer the acquired knowledge and skills to colleagues.

The program of the seminar contains lectures and active discussions with specialists of the Library of the Nazarbayev University on information literacy, ACRL standards on information literacy for higher education, as well as media and information literacy as a tool to prevent risks in the virtual space. In addition, Gulnar Asanbayeva, Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor, IREX Europe Media and Information Literacy Trainer and Alena Koshkina, trainer of the factcheck.kz project will take part in the seminar.

Recall that the Library of the Nazarbayev University, within the School of Library Technologies, conducts training seminars and trainings for staff of libraries of the regions of Kazakhstan on a permanent basis and this seminar is one of the formats for the practice of broadcasting the experience of the Library of the Nazarbayev University.
