Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business launches Executive MBA program in collaboration with Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business

The Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Business (NUGSB) launched its first-ever Executive MBA program on March 25th. The program is unique in that it is the first-ever Executive MBA program in Kazakhstan run in collaboration with a top-tier business school in the United States: Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
A total of 18 students representing companies such as Tengizchevroil, NCOC and Samruk Kazyna will be taking part in the initial program orientation. The immersive program features intense weekend sessions, which allows students to continue working with their respective companies. With an international residency at The Fuqua School of Business in Durham, North Carolina in the United States, the EMBA students will enhance their international network. The program runs until November 2014.  “The program personifies ‘glo-cal’ in that we are offering a program within Kazakhstan which is global in scope yet local in relevance and pay-off,” stated Ramon O’Callaghan, dean of the NUGSB.
The EMBA students will be receiving a broad general management education which will include courses in marketing, finance, accounting, strategy, economics and operations. They will also choose three electives which provides for flexibility and specialization.  Two of these three electives will be taken on the Duke University campus during the International Residency. The Executive MBA thesis allows students to apply the theory learned in the classroom to a project which will benefit the company and its goals.
“We believe that the program’s format enables students to deliver immediate return on investment for their companies,” said O’Callaghan.
Fuqua Professors David Robinson and Mohan Venkatachalam will be teaching the initial program courses. All the teaching faculty for the EMBA class of 2014 are professors vetted by Fuqua or are full-time faculty members from the school.
O’Callaghan concluded: “We believe our partnership with a school which is consistently ranked as having the best faculty in the world enables us to deliver the highest quality Executive MBA experience.”
