The NU Sports Complex hosted the international tournament (WKF) on kumite and kata programs among juniors, youth, and adults from July 2 to 14, 2024. The event saw the participation of some of the most accomplished karate athletes, including Sofia Berultseva, bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, and champions and medalists of the Asian Games and Asian Championships: Kaysar Alpysbai, Nurkanat Azhikanov, Gulmira Usenova, Daniyar Yuldashev, Abylai Toltai, and Assel Kanai.
More than 700 athletes from five countries—Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia (neutral team)—participated in the tournament. The competition ended with Kazakhstan taking first place, Uzbekistan taking second place, and Kyrgyzstan's team taking third.
This tournament is considered a rating event for Kazakhstan's karate fighters. Following the competition results, a national team will be carefully selected to represent our country in the upcoming Asian Championship, which will be held this August in the Philippines, and the World Championship, which is expected this October in Argentina. It is also one of the leading competitions before the Asian Indoor Games this year.
In general, the main objectives of the international tournament are to promote a healthy lifestyle, develop WKF sport karate in Kazakhstan, improve the level of sportsmanship of karate athletes and the qualifications of coaches and judges, and strengthen friendly relations between sports clubs and international federations.
