On February 7-8, 2025, Seoul National University hosted the AUA Postgraduate Academic Forum on Global Health in the Era of Digital Transformation in Seoul, drawing master’s and PhD students from leading institutions across the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA). Two students from Nazarbayev University’s School of Medicine, Aliya Salimova and Madina Tussupbekova, attended the forum to present their research on the growing influence of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in modern healthcare.
The forum served not only as a platform for academic exchange but also as a showcase of how emerging technologies are transforming healthcare on a global scale. Key topics included innovations in digital health, governance of digital health transformation, and real-world cases of digital advancements in healthcare across Asia.
At the forum, Madina Tussupbekova, a second-year master's student in Public Health, presented a poster titled “Trends and Insights in Patient Trust and Privacy in AI-Driven Health Systems: A Bibliometric Analysis,” while Aliya Salimova, a first-year PhD student in Biomedical Sciences, delivered an oral presentation on “Exploring Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome: A Case Study with Digital Health Applications.” Both presentations sparked interest among experts, receiving valuable feedback that contributed to the further development of their research and underscored the importance of international collaboration in digital healthcare.
“I have always been interested in bioethics, medical education, and how new technologies can transform healthcare," said Madina Tussupbekova. "AI is rapidly being integrated into medicine, offering tremendous opportunities but also raising many questions. For example, how willing are patients to trust algorithms? Do they understand how these systems work, and what concerns do they have? That’s why I decided to explore this topic further. I want to continue researching patient perceptions of AI-driven medical systems, with a particular focus on transparency, privacy, and ethics."
Participants expressed their gratitude to Seoul National University for its warm hospitality and excellent organization of the forum, which not only deepened their understanding of global health challenges but also helped establish new scientific collaborations. The students' outstanding research will be published in The Korean Journal of Public Health, a peer-reviewed journal issued by the Institute for Health and Environment at Seoul National University. Participation in such international academic events marks a significant step in advancing research at Nazarbayev University and strengthening collaboration within the AUA network.
