Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Became Chairman of NU’s Supreme Board of Trustees

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov was appointed the Chairman of NU’s (NU) Supreme Board of Trustees. This Board also overlooks the work of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools and Nazarbayev Fund.
The composition of the Supreme Board of Trustees changed on Sept. 28 based on the Decrees of the President and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. Besides A. Smailov it now includes:
- Yerulan Zhamaubayev – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance;
- Tamara Duissenova – Deputy Prime Minister on Social Affairs;
- Asset Irgaliyev – Aide to the Kazakh President on Economic Affairs;
- Sayasat Nurbek – Minister of Science and Higher Education;
- Ilesanmi Adesida – Acting President of NU.
Based on the decision of the Supreme Board of Trustees dated Oct. 2, the composition of NU’s Board of Trustees now includes:
- Asset Irgaliyev – Aide to the President of Kazakhstan on Economic Affairs, Chairman of the Board;
- Sayasat Nurbek – Minister of Science and Higher Education;
- Bagdat Mussin – Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry;
- Ilesanmi Adesida – NU Acting President;
- Shigeo Katsu – NU Founding President, Deputy Chairman of the Board;
- Alan Ruby – Senior Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania;
- Frederick Starr – Chairman, Central Asia and Caucasus Research Institute in Washington;
- Stavros Yiannouka – Chief Executive Officer, World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE);
- Philip Yeo – Chairman of Economic Development Innovations Singapore, Chairman of Accuron Technologies.
To note, one of the latest achievements of NU is entering the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2024 and finding itself in the 501-600 range, which means that NU is in the top 30% of research universities in the world.
