On June 1, 2018, the IV graduation ceremony, with the participation of the Head of State N.A. Nazarbayev, took place at Nazarbayev University.
This year, 811 students became graduates of the university, 506 of them received their bachelor degree, 302 their master degree, and 3 their PhD degree.
The largest number of undergraduate students graduated from the School of Science and Technology (195); 156 graduates from the School of Engineering, and 155 graduates from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Total number of master degree holders which graduated from NU schools were:
- 64 graduates in Graduate School of Business;
- 46 in Graduate School of Education;
- 48 in Graduate School of Public Policy;
- 33 graduates in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences,
- 23 graduates in the School of Science and Technology,
- 63 graduates in the School of Engineering,
- 25 graduates in the School of Medicine (first cohort).
As for PhD graduates there are three from Graduate School of Education.
The most popular specialties were electrical and electronic engineering, robotics, biological sciences, political science and international relations, mathematics, etc.
In 2017, the number of educational grant holders was approximately 4,000 people. Applicants who passed their entrance exams with the highest results entered Nazarbayev University, and received a state educational grant covering their expenses for the entire period of study.
Students who enter master and doctorate programs study within the state educational assignment, however the Graduate School of Business academic programs are an exception.
All Nazarbayev University Schools’ academic programs are developed in collaboration with world’ leading universities.
The best local and international researchers are invited to the university to educate students, linking science and education, as well as creating an effective academic environment, and the development of the country’s human capital.
Nazarbayev University graduates are competitive young specialists who are in demand both at home and abroad. Graduates of the previous three cohorts, about 1800 students, including last year’s cohort of PhD graduates, are all successfully employed in different companies.
“More than half of the graduates are employed at once. They work in the sector of financial services, engineering, robotics, and find jobs in large consulting companies. We are pleased to observe the trend, when many of our graduates open their business. Our students work in Kazakhstan, and those who leave, continue their education. In addition, some of our students successfully work for international companies,” – said Shigeo Katsu, President of Nazarbayev University.
More than 30 graduates of previous years have found their place in the labor market of Europe, North America, and Asia. Among them, there are graduates who are currently working in such leading IT companies as Google and Microsoft, as well as in Silicon Valley.
