Guest lecture by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Share this articleOn November 7, 2023, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Nicolaas Jakob Schermers visited NU (NU) with a guest lecture on the topic “Diplomacy and the career path of a Diplomat.”
The lecture was held for the university community: students, faculty and staff. The Ambassador just arrived in Kazakhstan 1.5-2 months ago, presenting an agreman to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The lecture attracted great attention from NU students and teaching staff.
During the lecture, the Ambassador shared his experience of becoming a diplomat, spoke about the features of the Netherlands, as well as the country’s economy. The interactive session that followed the lecture provided participants with a platform to engage in discussion with Ambassador Schermers. Students eagerly asked questions, sought advice on diplomatic careers, and were interested in potential opportunities for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands.
NU expresses its sincere gratitude to Ambassador Nicholaas Schermers for sharing his experiences and contributing to the academic and professional development of students.
Mr. Schermers holds a Master's degree in political science from the State University of Leiden and a degree in foreign relations from the Clingendael Institute (The Hague). Mr. Schermers is also fluent in five languages. Before his appointment as Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Kazakhstan, he served as Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Armenia.
