Scientists discuss the evolution of European values.

From September 13 to 15, Nazarbayev University hosted the inaugural scientific conference of the ValEUs research network. ValEUs is a consortium co-financed by the European Union, composed of 20 universities across 17 countries. Over 40 scholars, including representatives from Libertas University, Kharkiv National University, Istanbul Bilgi University, and the University of Pittsburgh, presented their work on the meaning of European values, how they are framing the European Union's foreign policy and how they are being contested.

Jean-Francois Caron, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations and the project coordinator for Kazakhstan, highlighted the consortium's benefits. Participation allows students from 20 universities to engage in joint grant-funded research and strengthen academic collaboration, while also elevating NU's status as a leading research university.

"Led by the European University Viadrina, the research consortium offers our faculty and students the opportunity to collaborate on research with scholars from around the world for at least the next three years. They will be able to attend symposia, co-author scientific papers, and, for doctoral students, conduct research at consortium institutions," Caron explained.

Next year’s conference will take place in Zagreb, Croatia, and the group’s next step will be to start organizing the three Summer Schools for undergraduate students that will take place next August in Istanbul, Denmark and Mexico.
