On April 17-19, 2018 the students of the School of Mining and Geosciences (SMG) of Nazarbayev University successfully participated in the 9th MINEX Central Asia Mining and Exploration Forum in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The 9th MINEX Forum included two formats of competition: “From Innovation to Implementation” and “Case competition”. Based on the peer-reviewing selection process, the SMG Faculty selected eight master students of the MSc. Mining Engineering Program to represent the School of Mining and Geosciences in the Forum.
The objective of the competition “From Innovation to Implementation” was to propose innovative solutions and technologies for implementation in mining enterprises. Nurassyl Battalgazy, SMG first year master student, won the prize for the best presentation of the topic: Application of Geostatistical Co-Simulation for further mine optimization and production planning processes.
In the “Case competition”, the Nazarbayev University team, which included Nurassyl Battalgazy, Yerkezhan Madenova, Meiirkhan Zhalel, Abusaadi Karzhau and Anuar Tazabekov, won the first place prize for giving the solutions to the mining case study presented by mining companies. Moreover, the students also demonstrated excellent analytical and problem-solving skills during these challenging competitions.
